Get in Touch

Most of our lives are just like this big city we live in – the hustle and bustle never stops. And while Austin is a lively metropolis with ample activities and attractions, we don’t always have the opportunity to really stop and enjoy them.

With summer upon us though, the chance to relax, recharge and explore is finally here. Whether you’re searching for the perfect outing for your family and children, or looking for a grand adventure with your love, the Live Music Capital of the World has plenty to offer for an Austin Summer Staycation.

Fun on the Water

Famous for its lakes and rivers, getting active on the water is an easy way to beat the heat and still have a great time this summer! From paddle boarding with SUP ATX at the Texas Rowing Center to a guided kayaking tour with Live Love Paddle on Lady Bird Lake, the serene water backdropped by the downtown skyline and bordered by Zilker Park and Auditorium Shores is a perfect way to unwind.

Aside from renting gear, you could always just dive into the refreshing waters of the Barton Springs Pool, one of Austin’s crown jewels. Located within Zilker Park, Barton Springs measures three acres in size and is spring fed, which allows for an average temperature between 68 and 70 degrees. The pool depth ranges from 0’ to 18’ deep while the surrounding grassy hillside is ideal for individuals to lounge and sunbathe.

Movie Madness

For over 10 years, Austin Parks Foundation has brought movies to neighborhood parks all across Austin. This free series of films is known as Movies in the Park and is wonderful free outdoor entertainment! With movies ranging from Beauty and the Beast to 10 Things I Hate About You, it’s great fun for all ages. For snacking during the movie, you can bring your own food or enjoy one of the many local food trucks that will be on-site.

Deep Eddy

Located at Lady Bird Lake, the Deep Eddy Pool is a freshwater swimming hole that is actually the oldest in Texas and offers an unique annual event called Splash Party Movie Nights! When the movie begins at dusk, huddle up with friends and family on the hill or float in the 600,000 gallon concrete pool while enjoying a film on the big screen.

Music Mania

Grab your family, friends, dogs and blankets and head over to Zilker Park for a classic Austin event. KGSR’s Blues on the Green is a free concert series of homegrown music in a relaxed atmosphere where individuals can sprawl out and enjoy food and cold beverages while listening to the sounds of live music.

Your little ones will love to experience the magic of the arts at the Austin Symphony Children’s Day Art Park! In their brand new Austin Central Library location, you can enjoy the live music in a cool environment away from the Texas heat with local musicians, dancers, storytellers and more. There’s event an Instrumental Petting Zoo where children can touch and play the instruments.

Educational Endeavors

Experience hands-on educational exhibits and recreational activities by visiting the Austin Nature and Science Center. You can take a self-guided tour of the Forest Trail exhibit, or meet face-to-face with a live bobcat, red-tailed hawk and other wildlife through ANSC’s Animal Friends program!

Become an expert on this amazing city you live in! Explore the State Capitol through a free tour that takes visitors to key areas while offering information about the building, legislature and Texas history. There are even special themed tours throughout the year such as Women in Texas History, Heroes of the Texas Revolution, Early Texas Artists in the Capitol and many more!

Sporty Entertainment

Baseball fans will enjoy attending a Round Rock Express   game. This Triple-A minor league baseball team has been hitting it out of the parkrecently so the game should keep fans on the edge of their seats.

A Night Out

Bat enthusiast or not, the nightly flight of Austin’s many Mexico free-tailed bats will keep you enthralled. The two mile high flight patterns and insect feeding frenzy at 60+ miles per hour has been drawing people to the South Congress Bridge for years now.

If you’d rather have a different vantage point to glimpse the dynamic aerial flight, hit the water! There are sunset bat cruises with Capital Cruises and bat kayaking tours with Live Love Paddle .
